Indian Harbour Residence

Situated on the riverfront, the Lansing Island Residence projected presented a unique design challenge. The 3,700 square foot home, while grand in scale with ceilings soaring from 15 to 19 feet, was plagued with design inefficiencies and wasted space. The voluminous hallways were underutilized, while the kitchen – arguably the heart of a home- was placed in a cramped, outdated cove.

To optimize the space, we began with a strategic design overhaul. The first order of business was to relocate the kitchen, making it the focal point of residence. This key shift allowed for an expansive, open feel, with the addition of a spacious island creating a sense of communal warmth. 

Capitalizing on the excess space afforded by the broad hallways, we skillfully inserted an additional bedroom, complete with an en-suite bathroom and a closet. Moreover, the layout was tactfully re-imagined to accommodate a powder room near the entrance, enhancing the home’s functionality. 

In terms of aesthetics, the design fused modern and traditional elements. Wall paneling and sconces were used to evoke a sense of classic elegance in the foyer. These elements combined with the timeless appeal of dark wood flooring running throughout, result in a balanced and visually pleasing harmony of styles.
